We sit at the close of another year in a precarious state. Questions blur the future and hope seems faltered given the uncertain nature of our national situation. With the world watching as events unfold it’s hard not to feel at the very least, conscious. Opinions are generated from every avenue, sides are being taken and the splits are daunting.
As talk and songs of ‘revolution’ fill the air and the more time we spend facing the frustrations caused by our daily headlines the more I feel we have only ourselves to blame. We are quick to expose the already obvious lacking in our society, the corruption, the exploitation, the hunger for power. We can confidently pass opinion on the flawed values of others and judge their loose, mostly non existent morals and be apathetic in the knowledge that nothing will ever change. Resignation is after all a far easier option to the alternative.
But just in case someone out there were to want the alternative now would be a very obvious time to gather facts, sit back and consider options for change. As developed minds we have many a responsibility, the first of which being to cultivate them further and share what we learn. Using whatever freedom of expression we have, responsibly, in order to initiate hope.
In order to raise a progressive society we need minds that think and do all that is necessary to unite our people. These minds need direction and teachings from people who simply believe that it can be done. It takes visionaries to create visionaries, people who will see past the current, hypocritical, moral squalor and invest in the forth coming. They will waste little time questioning the validity of their pursuit and be driven by the need to instigate the power of dreams in order to spark the ability to think beyond the present. They need to be able to teach and prove the worth of a word through literature and history, the rush of discovery through science and mathematics, all this in an environment that makes one open and receptive. Idealism may be high in a sentiment like this, but it has to start somewhere. In order to change our future, it may be cliché but we have to start now. In order for people to start thinking about our problems in constructive way with viable solutions we have to start giving them the tools they need to develop those thoughts. In order to show them that there is a better option we have to help them believe that it can exist. All this can be done through values, motivation and an instruction that goes beyond just a syllabus.
I have in my mind, through many an inspiring conversation, recognized education the only route to eventual but sure progress. It may not be a revolutionary thought, but I believe if the right actions are taken with the right motives and design behind them, revolution would be too weak a word to describe the effects.
