Hadiqa Kiani - Aasman 1/5
Wednesday    Jul
1

Hadiqa Kiani has long been considered an icon of our pop industry. She's got the whole package, she sings like a dream and looks even better. But i'll be honest, for me her music has never been groundbreaking or even particularly catchy. For me its always been too safe and predictable, which is a pity because Hadiqa has shown a willingness to experiment as can be seen from her collaborations with Aamir Zaki. But her latest album is underwhelming.

There is a very dominant UK Bhangra vibe going through the album which I feel cheapens her sound. Hadiqa has always been at her best when singing pop melodies and whether they are slow ballads or upbeat sing-along numbers. Her voice is criminally underused in this album with the emphasis going to the bhangra beats.

The worst part is these aren't even original sounding bhangra rhythms. Its the same stuff we've been hearing for years. 'Chankata' is the kind of song that Daler Mehdi would do better and 'Tuk Tuk' is pretty much the same song as Sonu Nigam's vastly superior "Bijooria".

The ballad "Jab Say Tum" featuring guest vocals from Irfan Kiani is so predictable and boring, its infuriating. The only saving grace in this album is the Middle Eastern tinged hip-hop of "Sohnya". It's a darker melody over a twisting beat that grows on you after repeated listening.

In the end this is one of those albums that is too pop to appeal to the rock listeners, and not catchy enough to appeal to the pop fans. A hugely dissappointing effort from Hadiqa.

I have to agree, i have been listening to Hadiqa since 5 and this has to be her worst album yet, only one song seemed good to me, and that was Wanjli , I think she should continue with more ballads. Her best album yet was Rung in my opinion!

i love you pakistan

i hope this album is very high quality.

i agree with the review..even sohnya is not dat appealing for me..

I agree with Khalid This album is the best.

i think this review is pretty bad no offense but the album is amazing its not for rock listeners but it is very catchy and commercial hadiqa has done iss baar milo and rough cut and other stuff to satisfy rock listeners

her skin flashing latest video airing on these days really disappointed me as well. She is naturally too beautiful to be exposing and revealing.
