New York: Motion Picture Soundtrack 1/5

After helming such feel good hits soundtracks as "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' music director Pritam returns on 'New York'. Now given that the movie is basically supposed to be a thriller, I realize that I can't expect the tunes to be upbeat or too pop, but even then, the songs are surprisingly bland. The opening track 'Hai Junoon' starts of well enough with an understated guitar but the song never really takes off and the chorus tends to become irritating rather than grow on you. In fact this is one of the few instances where the remix is better than the original.

'Mere Sang' has the gorgeous vocals of Sunidhi Chauhan and while it's pleasant, it's also just a little restrained and uninspired. Mohit Chauhan can't save the even more bland 'Tuney Jo Na Kaha' because it is just so slow and mediocre.

There's not much one can say about a soundtrack like this which doesn't have any clear cut hits. It's not that the music is bad, its just that it is so forgettable. I suppose the songs will work better in the context of the movie, but on it's own, I would be very surprised if any of these songs became standout hits. A clearly underwhelming effort that seems to show Pritam merely going through the motions.

loved the movie and the soundtracks...contrary to the review given. the best part about the music in new york is that it's integrated in the plot rather than random songs thrown at intervals in the movie. one of the few bollywood movies I would recommend

veryyyyyyyyy good movie...a great message is present in this movies....a great hit movie
